Exploring the idea of a courtyard house, which is very suited to the Albany climate, this house is designed to look in on itself with large north facing glazing along the north side of the living area facing the courtyard deck.  The lounge room and study also have smaller vertical windows facing the deck as well as high level windows looking out to the trees.

The residence is designed for affordability and efficiency in both its passive solar design and use of space. There are no corridors and for a small floor area of 136m2 it feels very spacious.

Designed using a grid to minimise material waste and using simple available timber sizes made this project possible on a tight budget.  Built on an 11m wide 405m2 lot it is also an example of what you can do on a small site.
